Depends on which choir you are in:
Yes. All UF choirs offer 1 academic credit.
Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Gainesville Master Chorale/Choral Union REQUIRE AN AUDITION to become a member. The Women's Chorale and Men's Glee Club are open enrollment ensembles.
Singers are encouraged to have a prepared piece to sing, but it is not a requirement. Please note that an accompanist may not be available for all audition times. Vocal technique is the primary factor considered during the audition process. Please check our Audition page.
Returning singers are not required to audition, but DO need to schedule a time to meet the director of the choirs and complete the Singer's Information Form.
By filling out the form, singers provide their information, like voice type, UFID, UF email, and phone number. This information is used for registration.
You can register for Women's Chorale, Men's Glee Club on your own, whether or not you are a music major. For Concert Choir , Chamber Singers, and Gainesville Master Chorale/Choral Union, if you are a music major you can register for these three ensembles following the posted results of your audition. If you are non-music major, you will be registered for these courses.
The Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Gainesville Master Chorale/Choral Union are under the direction of Dr. Will Kesling.
The Women's Chorale and Men's Glee Club are directed by Dr. James Cain.
UF choirs prepare and perform a very wide range of repertoire, from Renaissance to 21st century, from motets to choral-orchestra works. We also focus on music by historically underrepresented composers. The University of Florida choral department prides itself on diverse and inclusive programming.
